Louis Leroux (1829 - 1900) was a French painter who came from humble beginnings but had a passion for art at a young age. He won a scholarship to École des beaux arts in Paris and won medals for drawing, landscape, and historical composition. He then studied in Rome, won many awards there as well and became friends with other popular contemporary painters like Henri-Michel-Antoine Chap, Jules Joseph Lefebvre, Léon Bonnat and Tony Robert-Fleury. He has painting represented at the Musée d’Orsay, Petit Palais and Yale University Art Gallery.
